Welcome to the ramblings of man passionate about Algonquin College, branding, technology and living sustainability.
After finishing at Carleton University, I began my professional life working as an Executive Assistant to Jean Pigott, Chairman of the National Capital Commission. In 1991, I moved to Ottawa City Hall to work for Mayor Jacquelin Holzman as her Director of Communications and Community Relations.
In 1992, I left the Mayor’s Office and started Capital Trolley Tours serving as both General Manager and President. In 1996, Capital Trolley Tours merged with Piccadilly Bus Tours to form a new company under the banner Capital Double Decker & Trolley Tours.
In 2000, the company expanded to include an amphibious operation called Canada Ducks and the Ottawa Airport-Hotel Shuttle. In 2002, we sold the sightseeing company and I accepted an invitation to return to my alma mater as Director, Communications and Community Relations.
After four President’s and 5 great years I left Carleton to found ecoverde, a small boutique sustainability consultancy. Two years later I sold my stake and returned to the education sector where I have the great privilege to serve as Executive Director, Advancement at Algonquin College.
An active member of the community, I have served on the Board of Directors of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton Entrepreneurship Centre, Big Sisters of Ottawa-Carleton and the Ottawa Tourism & Convention Authority. Twice recognized as one of Ottawa’s Top 40 under 40, my most prized award is for Ottawa Tourism’s New Company of the Year in 1994.
Married to the love of my life, Sue and I are blessed with three amazing kids.

Mr. Wotherspoon!
My how you jump from ship to ship. I hope you are doing well and enjoying your new position at Algonquin. I was talking to the Director of Communications for the Upper Canada District School Board today (that’s where I work now teaching behavioural students) and it got me thinking “How is Mr. Wotherspoon doing?” A quick Google search and here I am.
Take care and I will continue reading your insightful “ramblings.” Finding ways to connect with today’s youth on the ways they learn is really something that can be done with the topics you discuss on your blog. Social networking is a huge one considering it seems that they have a freakin’ cell phone or laptop superglued to them at every possible moment!
Take care.
